Status update

And lo, it is indeed 36 hours after my last post. It turns out that Internet access is a little harder to come by than I expected—to get a good signal, I need to go about six miles up the road, which means I need to borrow a car—but I'll still try to connect every day or two while I'm here.

Drive down was largely uneventful. I'm staying in a magnificent one-room suite on the top floor of a house on the beach; I'm really pleased. I was a bit worried when I found that the room has no door, but then I discovered that the stairway design acts as a sound baffle; I can barely hear people talking in the hallway one floor down, and I can't hear anything from two floors down even when thirty people are having dinner there. And I have a great view of the beach.

This morning, spent some time tossing a Foxtail back and forth with Jim M on the beach, and after I fell in the water I decided to go all the way into the water, so spent some time just standing/bobbing in the water, out just beyond the breakers. Really nice. Then did some juggling and lay in the sun for a bit. Later, read subs and napped and just relaxed. I think instead of going on all the big-group outings this week, I'm going to spend a lot of time in my room, and a lot of time on the beach, and a lot of time in small groups of friends. I'm going to try to have a relaxing vacation instead of a frenetic one. We'll see how it goes.

I’m wishing you much relaxing instead of freneticking. But what, pray tell, is a fox tail?

A fox tail is basically a ball with a tail; fun to toss back and forth.

Thx for the notes! Am posting this comment from my Treo so keeping it short.

Yay the Outer Banks! I’m regretting being so close and yet so far, since there’s a whole bunch of y’all I’d love to see. But it wasn’t to be.

Enjoy the beach! Keep an eye out for dolphins–Stephen & I usually see some when we’re out there.
