“Story of Tonight”/“You Will Be Found” mashup

I have complicated feelings about this mashup of “Story of Tonight” (from Hamilton) with “You Will Be Found” (from the musical Dear Evan Hansen).

On the one hand, it’s a lovely song, and it’s a benefit for March For Our Lives.

On the other hand, I had never heard of Dear Evan Hansen before (content warning for discussion of suicide), so I looked it up, and as far as I can tell from Wikipedia, in the context of the show this song involves the protagonist lying about how close he was to another kid, after the other kid has committed suicide (and the lie ends up going viral and making the protagonist really popular). Which makes it hard for me to really appreciate the song as a sincere statement, and hard for me to like it in the context of March For Our Lives.

(…And as for “Story of Tonight,” even though it’s inspirational, I’m not sure that a drinking song is really ideal as an anthem for a movement led by modern teenagers. But that’s a minor thing.)

But I do like the mashup. So I’m passing it along.
