Marcy writes on a bunch of different topics, including how Jay and Jed are doing, car troubles, considering moving, Proposition 13, Peter’s job, Marcy’s illness, the impending birth of a cousin, and more. “this morning I noticed that the world was kind of polluted, so I cleaned it up and polished it, and now it goes around quite merrily. I put a special shine on Alaska for you, and wiped the international date lihe particularly well. I had always thought God made the world, and was a little surprised to find it said Rand McNally down in the Pacific Ocean.”
Marcy talks about packing to move, and various other news. “Jed won the American Legion Award (a medal & certificate) for an essay on Americanism […] How’s that for naches?”
Marcy lets G&H know that we’re settling in to our new house in Palo Alto. “Our house-mates are truly lovely, he’s involved in solar energy, she works in a flower nursery, and their little girl is as sweet as can be (she’s 7) and it sure makes it affordable, and fills the spaces. We’d really rattle in this huge house.”
A Halloween update from Marcy, describing her Japan trip and how things were going in Palo Alto, including lots of flowers and other plants. “We are so fortunate to have this place - we pay 260 for half the house, and one-bedroom apartments start at $300. Near where Peter’s office is you can rent a 2-bedroom apartment with deck and jacuzzi and pool for $2000 a month.”
Marcy thanks G&H for presents, and muses about the power of prayer and Johrei. “The honey coconut spread was very happy that some kind person had put it in a baggie. Otherwise it would have been very embarrased at the damage its leakage could have done.”
A general-life-updates note, plus the first time Marcy used the word leukemia in a letter. “Jed also has a weekly math class with an advanced group at another school but some of what I hear about doesn’t sound real advanced.”
A thank-you-and-we’re-super-busy note from Marcy. “Working for Ken (the space peace-keeping project) at $6 an hour, but he wants me to type and it’s sending me up the walls - even on his lovely selectric I’m no typist.”
Marcy didn’t often write poems. This one, about flying dragon kites, was for my brother. “My heart longs for the green hills[…]”
General updates from Marcy: missing Peter (who was away at a math class); seeing friends; notes about the flowers and birds; finding out we didn’t have to move; summer school; swimming lessons; more. “I’m beginning to learn to breathe.”
A brief postcard about Jay’s baseball photos.
