A thank-you note and general life update from Marcy. “Peter just gave me a haircut—looks good but it’s a little too short—’Quin got one, too, but Jed is still a longhair.”
A letter from Marcy during a trip (with me and Jay) to see Marcy’s mother in Philadelphia. “Vacations sure are nice—nice when they’re over, too.”
A placeholder note to let George and Helen know we haven’t forgotten them. “the germs & the realtors have a conspiracy to keep us from mailing our New Years Presents (we already gave up on Christmas) till Easter”
Another thank-you-plus-life-updates letter, in which we’re preparing to sell the house and move on to the next adventure. “We are very sorry to be so unconscionably late in sending our gifts to you—especially since we had finished making them by 12/20 or so, but have been as busy as a gaggle of whirligigs, mostly running around in circles...”
In which the kids get German measles and (unrelatedly) the parents sell the house. “He made a lovely potato head yesterday, all by himself, then gave it to Peter to eat for breakfast.”
Marcy congratulates George and Helen on their new (beach?) house, and catches them up on some bits of news.
In which we move again, and our dog gets spayed.
General updates from Marcy. “Here I sit by the local excuse for a fireplace, a gas heater with a Thermostat. We gather ’round it evenings for togetherness.”
An instruction manual telling George and Helen how to take care of Jed and Jay during a month-long visit. “I would prefer that they not have any pasteurized milk; However, I understand that this may be difficult. They may have all the raw milk they want, but it may be prohibitively expensive.”
Marcy explains the origins of amber, and catches us up on how she and Peter are doing while Jay and I are away. “did you tell her that you like to do dishes? You must be helping a lot—Grandma was very pleased in her letter.”
