Marcy’s first letter to George & Helen, a note planning impending travel. “Dear Mrs H__, Mr H__, & all…”
A followup note from Marcy. “your favorite grandson weighs 17¼ pounds and can turn over by himself in both directions (though sometimes he turns to his front & is very surprised about being there so suddenly) and is beginning to resemble a zeppelin more than anything.”
Marcy lets G&H know that she’s pregnant. “Next grandchild due in Jan, Feb, or March”
Peter and Marcy and I visit Peter’s brothers in prison. “what a lovely birthday present. It was just what we needed, at that very moment, due to circumstances which will presently unfold.”
In which we move again. “[Jed is] fully weaned & very happy, got his own trike this weekend, but can’t quite reach the pedals yet.”
In which Marcy muses about gifts and Christmas and commercialism and love. “The rest of the presents are temporarily stashed, as it would have been too much at once, and he was already getting a little drunk on the abundance of new things.”
In which Marcy asks for baby clothes and advice about using a wringer washer, and writes about food, and rehabilitation, and sundry other things. “How is it that we never have any time? If wishes were horses, if turnips were watches, if sitting down & thinking a letter could get it recorded…”
A quick thank-you note for a present. “Jed was delighted w/the wrapping.”
In which Marcy sends photos of Jay, and some thank-yous, and assorted other news. “Jed was absolutely delighted with the card – he just latched on to it & kept holding it & we had to read it to him about 30 times.”
In which Marcy mentions an upcoming visit by George and Helen, and a planned move. “Better hurry & get here, ’fore your grandchildren are readin’ & writin’ & figurin’”
