Marcy explains the origins of amber, and catches us up on how she and Peter are doing while Jay and I are away. “did you tell her that you like to do dishes? You must be helping a lot—Grandma was very pleased in her letter.”
A note from Peter to Jed and Jay. “here is four weeks allowance each and a dollar bonus to share”
An update from Helen on how Jed and Jay’s visit is going. “Do hope you've caught up with jobs that needed doing, gotten some extra rest, and perhaps saved a bit more money than usual these six weeks. An opportunity that may never happen again?”
Marcy wonders how to get Jed and Jay home from the trip to see George and Helen. “The 15000 for the plane flight up there just about did us under - now we are back up to zero but not sure what to do.”
A brief update from Marcy. “hoping you’re all survived from your multitudinous surgeries, Grandpa, and thoroughly enjoying your leisure.”
A postcard from Peter, wishing George and Helen a happy anniversary.
A note from Marcy on the occasion of George and Helen preparing to head off on a trip to Hawaiʻi. “Peter was overjoyed to get his maroon pants back, and wore them for four days running. No, the days were running, he was mostly driving.”
Peter explains more or less what he meant when he referred to himself as a “Scuffler” in a previous note. “my connotations include images of scruffiness (scuffedness), of being somewhat worn around the edges; tattered or shabby; but yet still vigorous and resolute.”
Peter tells Dobe about trying to give up alcohol, Marcy leaving her bookstore job and switching to eating only raw foods, a $4 million idea for putting sleeping cots in cars, going to Disneyland for the first time, other stuff we’d all been up to, and lots of books that Peter had been reading.
A brief thank-you note from Jay for some birthday presents.
