Peter and Marcy and I visit Peter’s brothers in prison. “what a lovely birthday present. It was just what we needed, at that very moment, due to circumstances which will presently unfold.”
1969, September 23: Postcard from Marcy to G&H
In which we move again. “[Jed is] fully weaned & very happy, got his own trike this weekend, but can’t quite reach the pedals yet.”
1969, December 29: Letter from Peter to G&H
In which Peter is really interested in the idea of the enema as a purificatory gift from God. “Next, we are told to cleanse ourselves by the power of ‘the Angel of Water’ —— by swimming & bathing, and by self-administering enemas[…]”
1970, January 1: Letter from Marcy to G&H
In which Marcy muses about gifts and Christmas and commercialism and love. “The rest of the presents are temporarily stashed, as it would have been too much at once, and he was already getting a little drunk on the abundance of new things.”
1970, January 26: Letter from Marcy to G&H
In which Marcy asks for baby clothes and advice about using a wringer washer, and writes about food, and rehabilitation, and sundry other things. “How is it that we never have any time? If wishes were horses, if turnips were watches, if sitting down & thinking a letter could get it recorded…”

A quick thank-you note for a present. “Jed was delighted w/the wrapping.”
1970, March 5: Letter from Peter to his brothers
In which my brother is born! “he’s BEAUTIFUL, healthy, has great ears, an outstanding nose, & wise alert eyes, a strong grasp, a strong suck, a penetrating cry, dark hair[…]”
(…Unrelatedly, Peter also goes on to describe various of his own physical ailments, in rather graphic detail.)

In which Marcy sends photos of Jay, and some thank-yous, and assorted other news. “Jed was absolutely delighted with the card – he just latched on to it & kept holding it & we had to read it to him about 30 times.”
